double eagle: the next step
"the empire never ended." (philip k. dick)

100 years of european history (1838 -1938), draped around the fulcrum of the austrian-hungarian monarchy in concentric circles.
history and stories, illustrating the changing process from fact to myth, from objective history to subjective legend. chancellor Bismarck and Ludwig II. of Bayern, Sigmund Freud and successor to the throne Franz Ferdinand, young Hitler and old Franz Joseph, Gustav Meyrink and Richard Wagner.
only few samples of all the real characters who -beside their fictional comrades such as aunt jolesch or herr K.- are acting as personnel of a historical revue . located in a semirealistic middle europe as background for many different events such as mayerling, the assassination of king umberto II of italy, world war one, the birth of psychoanalysis, the discovering of twelve-tone-music as well as the destruction of nikola tesla.
the red line through this hi-story (with excursions to outer-european interests) is drawn by two literally immortal characters:
the eternally young Tyll, forever 13 years old, a boy who finds himself repeatedly in more ore less sensitive historical moments and his antagonist and persecutor, the timeless armchair culprit and police spy Schädlich (= "noxiously").
Beside this duo there is also a secret center in DOUBLE EAGLE: Graz.
A side-location of history maybe, a highly active electron within the molecular web of telling. it is Graz where all those stories have their origin and where they all come to their end.
Aesthetically/visually DOUBLE EAGLE can be described as the creative middle between Grimmelshausens classical Simplizissimus and Alan Moores modern Comic-classic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, between decent history-teaching and detached irony. a Kaleidoscope of european history, shown as a Graphic Novel which combines complexity and vividness in an optimized way.
in short: a Guide through yesterday within tomorrow!
