f you want to enhance a comic artist's self-esteem, visibility, ability to work in a team, quality and market value it's best to give him/her a periodical print-platform to present his/her work. there is a serious lack of such opportunities in german speaking areas, especially in austria which is not only caused by ww2 or missing talents. the big success of french comics, for example, since the early 1960s was based on
pilote (1959-1986), a comic-magazine hosted by visionary comic artist rené goscinny. in the late 1890s us-comics started to become a powerful medium thanks to strip-series and whole comicpages in serious newspapers. nowadays the world wide web gives artists growing options for self-publication but nothing can replace the sensual joy of reading a physical present book.
so prequel is about to launch a project called acqa - austrian comics quarterly at thomas ballhausen's suggestion, a periodic magazine in full color and high quality to publish and present austrian talents in the wide field of comics and graphic novels. given a useful financial support we will start in summer 2010.
